BNP General Secretary, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has made it clear that the party is not in favor of holding local elections before the national elections.

He also voiced opposition to the proportional representation system, emphasizing that it doesn’t align with their position.

During a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson‍‍`s political office in Gulshan on Thursday, February 13, Fakhrul argued that if local elections were to take place before the national election, the interim government would not be able to manage the country‍‍`s overall situation effectively.

Therefore, BNP is advocating for local government elections to be held after the national elections.

On the subject of the United Nations report concerning the July genocide issue, Fakhrul stated that the report reveals the correct details of the genocide.

He said, "Sheikh Hasina should be brought back to the country and put on trial."

Additionally, Fakhrul appealed to the Indian government to bring back the ousted Sheikh Hasina to face justice.

He also pointed out that the decision to ban the Awami League will ultimately be up to the people.
